The Weekend Preview – March 17, 2023

Conference play heats up in the CAA as lacrosse league matchups get fully underway Saturday, joining baseball and softball conference series and tennis league clashes. Outdoor track & field season starts up for the majority of programs and rowing and golf competition continues.

Baseball
It’s another full weekend of conference play in CAA baseball. Northeastern, which is off to its best overall start since 1942, hosts North Carolina A&T. After recording victories over nationally ranked foes on Tuesday, Elon and UNCW look to continue the momentum as the Phoenix visit Monmouth and the Seahawks travel to Towson. Stony Brook makes its CAA debut at preseason favorite Charleston and Hofstra hosts William & Mary. Delaware entertains UMass Lowell for a three-game series in non-conference action.| Weekend Schedule

Softball
We have a full weekend of CAA Softball awaiting as five conference series are on the docket. The top two teams in the preseason poll, UNCW and Delaware, will face off in Newark. The Seahawks enter the matchup on a four-game winning streak after sweeping its opening CAA series and a midweek victory over North Carolina, as they earned their first Power Five win since 2019. Two teams that won their first CAA series this spring will go head-to-head in West Long Branch. Monmouth took two of three from Hampton in its opening CAA series and will host Elon, who earned a sweep over Stony Brook last weekend. Additionally, Charleston ends a 22-game home stand, hitting the road for just the second time this season when the Cougars head to Towson.

Three teams will be opening CAA play this weekend, including newcomer North Carolina A&T hosting Drexel, with both teams starting their conference schedules. The final series features a Long Island rivalry as Hofstra’s first CAA series this spring has the Pride heading to Stony Brook. | Weekend Schedule

Women’s Lacrosse
After a 3-2 showing in the midweek, CAA play begins for all eight teams. League newcomer Monmouth begins the day hosting Elon (11 a.m., FloLive), followed by Hofstra visiting William & Mary (1 p.m., FloLive). In the nightcap, Hofstra will host Fairfield at 7 p.m. (FloLive).

In non-conference action, Delaware and Monmouth, who went head-to-head last weekend, will face top-20 competition. The Hawks host No. 10/9 Villanova at 2 p.m. on Saturday (FloLive), while the Blue Hens travel to No. 9/10 Johns Hopkins at 7 p.m. on Sunday (ESPN+). | Weekend Schedule
