Henrico County Public Schools issued the following announcement on Aug. 27

What’s more satisfying than making sure that students get to school safely and on time? Making sure that students get to school safely and on time — and getting a bonus for doing it. Henrico County Public Schools is offering a bonus from $1,000 to $3,000, paid in installments throughout the year, when you join our transportation team.

HCPS bus drivers: Incentives for new hires

  • $3,000 bonus for drivers with a commercial driver’s license (CDL), plus “S” and “P” endorsements.
  • $2,000 bonus for drivers with a CDL.
  • $1,000 bonus for brand new drivers.
(Bonuses will be paid in installments throughout the year and are for new hires only. For additional details, contact the HCPS Human Resources Department at 804-652-3664.)

The school division has also offered new incentives to drivers already on staff. A new safe driver incentive pays drivers $125 per quarter, and a new attendance incentive offers a first-quarter bonus of $200, then $100 for the final three quarters of the year. Between the two new initiatives, current drivers can earn an extra $1,000 a year.

Apply online to join our team at https://henricoschools.us/careers/, and be sure to check out our benefits package.

Don’t worry if you don’t have bus driving experience — if you’re a qualified driver candidate, you’ll be paid as you train.

Candidates for full-time and substitute bus drivers must: be at least 21 years old; have a valid Virginia driver’s license; be able to obtain a CDL Class B instructional permit or hold a CDL Class B license with endorsements in P (Transporting Passengers)/S (School Bus) and airbrakes; pass a physical and drug test and have no felony convictions.
