Congressman Wittman (VA-01) has announced the commencement of the 2024 Congressional App Challenge, which is open to all middle and high school students in Virginia’s First District. The competition deadline is set for Oct. 24, 2024.
The Congressional App Challenge is a nationwide event aimed at promoting student involvement in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education fields. It offers middle and high school students from across the country an opportunity to compete by creating and showcasing their software applications or "apps" for mobile, tablet, or computer devices on a platform of their choice.
"The Commonwealth is home to many bright young students, and I encourage all eligible students to submit an application to this year’s Congressional App Challenge," said Congressman Wittman. "I look forward to seeing the hard work and talent from our Virginia students in their submissions."
The winning entries will be eligible for display in the U.S. Capitol and featured on the U.S. House of Representatives website. Furthermore, the victorious students will receive an invitation to attend the #HouseofCode Capitol Hill Reception in Washington D.C.
To participate in the challenge:
- Participants must be a middle or high school student at the time of app submission.
- Students may compete if they reside in or attend school in the First District.
- Students may compete as individuals or in teams of up to four students. At least half of the teammates on any team must live or attend school in the First District.
- All entries must be original in concept, design, and execution.
More information about the challenge’s rules can be found on its official website where applicants can also register for the competition and submit their apps.
