Drexel’s Washington Selected as Finalist for 2023 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award
Drexel University women’s basketball guard Keishana Washington has been selected as a finalist for the 2023 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award announced Tuesday by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
The graduate guard ranks third in the NCAA, scoring 27.1 points per game, and is fourth with 760 total points. Washington’s season point total has entered the league record books as she sits eighth on the CAA single-season scoring list. The Pickering, Ontario native has been the model of consistency for the Dragons, reaching double figures in 62 straight games, scoring 20 or more 23 times this season, including 11 games with 30 or more, and she is the only player in the NCAA with three 40-point performances this season. Additionally, Washington averaged 29.5 points per game over the past month, scoring over 20 points in all seven games during February.
It marks the sixth season of the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, named after the four-time All-American and 1993 Hall of Famer, which annually recognizes the top shooting guard in NCAA women’s basketball.
Washington is one of five finalists, joined by South Carolina’s Zia Cooke, Maryland’s Diamond Miller, Florida State’s Ta’Niya Latson and Hailey Van Lith of Louisville.
Fans can support their favorite players by participating in Fan Voting, presented by Dell Technologies, Starting Friday, March 3 on hoophallawards.com. The Fan Vote will count as one committee vote during the finalist selection process.
In March, the finalists will be presented to Meyers Drysdale and the Hall of Fame’s selection committee. The Selection Committee for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award is composed of top women’s college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers.
The winner of the 2023 Meyers Drysdale Award will be presented on a to be determined date, along with the four other members of the Women’s Starting Five. Additional awards being presented include the Nancy Lieberman Award (Point Guard), Cheryl Miller Award (Small Forward), the Katrina McClain Award (Power Forward) and the Lisa Leslie Award (Center), in addition to the Men’s Starting Five.
