Delaware's Nelson Named to Oscar Robertson Trophy Watch List

Delaware men’s basketball guard Jameer Nelson Jr. has been named to the 50-player midseason watch list for the Oscar Robertson Trophy, the USBWA’s National Player of the Year awarded since 1958-59 and named after its two-time winner.

Nelson is averaging 19.7 points per game in 2022-23 on 46% shooting with 5.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.5 steals per game with the scoring (22nd) and steals (12th) averages ranking in the top 25 nationally. The guard from Pennsylvania has scored in double figures in all 15 of his games played this season with seven games of 20+ points and two of 30+. He is one of 10 players from a mid-major conference on the list. Nelson’s father, Jameer, won the Oscar Robertson Trophy in 2004.

At the conclusion of the regular season, the entire USBWA membership will vote for the award. The winner of the award will be announced at the 2023 Men's Final Four in Houston with the formal presentation to follow at the annual USBWA Awards Luncheon hosted by the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.

All Division I players remain eligible for the 2022-23 Oscar Robertson Trophy. The watch list merely spotlights the top candidates, as selected by the USBWA board.
