No. 18 Charleston overcame a slow start to become the nation’s first team to 20 wins, Hofstra put together a dominant second half in a battle for second place, and four other teams – Delaware, Drexel, Northeastern, and Towson – were victorious in Thursday night’s CAA men’s basketball action.
Four of Thursday’s winners – Delaware, Drexel, Northeastern, and Towson – exceeded their season scoring averages by 10+ points. Eight players around the league scored 20 or more points including three of 25+.
18/21 Charleston 69, Monmouth 55
Charleston trailed by three at the half before coming out of the locker room on a 20-8 run to gain the lead and extend the nation’s longest winning streak to 19 games. Charleston (20-1, 8-0) held Monmouth to 24 points in the second half after trailing 31-28. Reyne Smith hit seven threes for the Cougars on his way to a game-high 27 points, while Dalton Bolon added 15. Charleston shot 44% in the second half after going 8-for-28 (29%) in the opening 20 minutes. Andrew Ball notched a career-high 16 for Monmouth (1-18, 0-6).
