Learn why individual membership matters and participate in the fall promotion.
USGBC has an incredible community of passionate, creative and dedicated stakeholders. Locally and regionally in the U.S., USGBC’s work is propelled by our individual members, volunteers, partners and green building stakeholders at large. For our individual members, it matters because they identify with USGBC’s mission and work, benefit from the ability to access educational resources, and experience moments of connection with networking opportunities. For USGBC, individual membership support matters because we can provide more meaningful programming and efforts to lead, educate, engage and empower communities to build green within the 40 communities and eight regions in the U.S.

Be part of a community that matters.
Individual membership matters because it’s an investment in the essential development and evolution of LEED. In 2022, we hosted a series of in-person and digital feedback sessions, “LEED Convene and Connect.” It was an opportunity for all members, LEED practitioners, subject matter experts and other stakeholders to hear updates around the evolution of the rating system and provide direct responses in advisement to the LEED committees and supporting staff. USGBC communities are proud to continue these sessions in 2023, focused on the development of the LEED v5 rating system.
Individual membership matters because USGBC communities can offer support for continuing education needs with the popular digital First Friday webinars and Community Education Series. The webinar series offered up to 11.5 LEED-specific continuing education hours, and the Community Education Series offered 6.5 LEED and AIA continuing education hours. Nearly 1,500 LEED credential holders were able to see hours reported in their accounts, and they could attend all the sessions at affordable rates. USGBC communities will continue both series in 2023, and members will have an opportunity for early access to registration.
Individual membership matters because it allows more opportunities to lead, learn and engage through digital and in-person local and regional programs. USGBC communities offered 270 programs in 2022, with nearly 15,000 people participating. Programs included plaque ceremonies, like the recent celebration of the Minnesota Twins’ Target Field becoming the first major league baseball venue to achieve Platinum certification under LEED v4.1 for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance.
Programs included the return of the Build and Buy Green Conference in Honolulu, Hawaii, that focused on the uniqueness of the needs and the urgency required for the island state in climate action, equity and affordable housing. We also launched a new digital Product Solutions Showcase that featured noteworthy sustainable products to reduce negative impact and increase LEED buildings' performance in health, resilience, equity, energy, water, waste, carbon and human experience. In 2023, USGBC communities will continue to develop and improve program offerings to meet the needs of our members, partners and stakeholders.
Individual membership matters because USGBC communities can offer opportunities to volunteer within the 40 local communities and eight regions of the U.S. In 2022, this volunteer force totaled more than 1,400. The opportunities ranged from long-term leadership positions, like the Market Leadership Advisory Boards, to one-time program support or building the confidence and skills of future leaders. All of USGBC’s volunteers provide vital perspective, skills and time that expands capacity to support stakeholders where they live. In 2023, volunteer opportunities will expand to include more in-person, hands-on experiences, as well as community-specific equity initiatives.
Individual membership matters because USGBC communities can offer moments of empowerment, such as the to nearly 900 women at 19 Women In Green programs. This year, USGBC celebrated individual empowerment through collective opportunities with the theme, “Rising Collective.” The theme reflects on the spirit of togetherness and unity and the value of partnership during arduous times. Women were encouraged to use their collective voice to help strengthen our work in an effort to rise farther, faster. USGBC is committed to building on these concepts to help create a better, more equitable road ahead. Women In Green will continue in 2023, and the theme will be announced early in the year.
Consider joining, renewing or giving USGBC individual membership before Dec. 14.
