Congressman Rob Wittman recently organized a seminar in Mechanicsville, Virginia, aimed at addressing the challenges faced by veterans and their families. The event took place at American Legion Post 175 and brought together various stakeholders, including support organizations and community members.

During the seminar, Wittman emphasized the importance of supporting veterans in their transition to civilian life. "American history – and world history – would be much different without the service and sacrifice of our veterans," he stated. He highlighted issues such as healthcare, employment, and education opportunities for veterans.

The congressman was accompanied by Bruce Voigt from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Roanoke Regional Office and Harry Schein from the Virginia Department of Veterans Services.

Wittman's legislative efforts for veterans include voting for the PACT Act, which expands VA healthcare to those exposed to toxic burn pits. It also extends enrollment periods for post-9/11 combat veterans and mandates regular screenings for toxic exposure concerns.

He introduced several bills like the Veterans Collaboration Act to foster collaboration between non-profit veteran service organizations and educational institutions. The BRAVE Act aims to notify veterans about counseling options during crises while respecting privacy concerns.

Other initiatives include the Veterans Choice Accountability Act, which increases access to non-VA medical care, and legislation to improve data sharing between VA and DoD doctors to expedite disability examinations.

Wittman has also cosponsored acts such as the Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act, enhancing healthcare delivery at VA facilities. Additionally, he supports the Not Just a Number Act focused on suicide prevention among veterans through improved data accuracy and service delivery enhancements.
