Three #CAAHoops Players Named to Lou Henson Award Watch List

Three #CAAHoops Players Named to Lou Henson Award Watch List

Hofstra redshirt senior Aaron Estrada, Towson redshirt senior Cam Holden, and Charleston sophomore Reyne Smith have been named to the watch list for the Lou Henson Award.

The award, which is presented annually to the top mid-major player in Division I men’s basketball, honors the former Illinois and New Mexico State head coach who won 775 games in 41 seasons.

Estrada was CAA Player of the Year in 2021-22 and is off to another stellar start in 2022-23 as he is averaging 22.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.4 steals per game through five games for the 4-1 Pride. The guard from New Jersey is one of only 13 players in the entire nation to average at least 20 points, four rebounds, and four assists per outing.

Holden has been key to Towson’s early-season success, as the guard from Georgia is averaging 11.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.2 steals per game for Towson, which is off to a 5-0 start for the first time in program history. Holden was a first team All-CAA honoree a year ago.

Smith is once again earning a spot among the nation’s top three-point shooters with 18 on 38% shooting and two games of five or more threes in wins over defending conference champions. The guard from Australia, who is averaging 13.2 points per game this winter, has helped Charleston to a 5-1 start with all five wins over NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago.

William & Mary alum Nathan Knight is the most recent CAA winner of the honor in 2020.
