CAA Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards

The CAA has announced its women’s basketball weekly awards following the second week of the 2022-23 season as a pair of Drexel student-athletes earned honors. Graduate guard Keishana Washington was named CAA Player of the Week, and freshman forward Kylie Lavelle garnered her second CAA Rookie of the Week accolade in as many weeks to begin her career.

Washington averaged 26.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per contest to lead Drexel in a pair of games throughout the week. On Saturday, she netted 37 points on 10-of-17 shooting (58.8%) while setting season-highs with seven rebounds, five assists and four steals to lead Drexel to a 66-61 win over Maryland Eastern Shore. It is Washington’s second 30-plus scoring output of the year and a single-game high in the conference this season. Earlier in the week, she contributed 16 points with two assists, one rebound and one steal despite a 77-74 setback to La Salle. After both performances, Washington has reached double figures scoring in 37 consecutive games.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Kylie Lavelle, Drexel

Lavelle averaged 21.0 points per game on 58.8 percent shooting (17-of-29) and 7.5 rebounds per game in a pair of contests for the Dragons. Lavelle set a Drexel freshman record by scoring 31 points against La Salle on Tuesday. She shot 12-of-19 (63.2%) from the floor and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds in the effort. The freshman forward followed the performance with 11 points, six rebounds and one block in a win versus Maryland Eastern Shore. Lavelle has reached double-figures in all three games to begin her collegiate career, while her 62 points are the most through three games by a freshman in Drexel program history.
