Congressman Rob Wittman of Virginia has announced the re-introduction of the Adoption Information Act. This legislation aims to require family planning services to inform individuals about nearby adoption centers. The eligibility of these services to receive federal grants or contracts through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services would depend on providing this information.
"A lot of people say they would not be where they are today without their parents – for me, that is the absolute truth," said Congressman Wittman. "When I was eight months old, my mom and dad adopted me. My birth mother’s decision to choose adoption gave me more opportunities than she felt she could provide, and my parents’ decision to adopt instilled in me a passion for public service and a desire to give back. That’s why I’m proud to reintroduce my Adoption Information Act so that all mothers know what options are available to them. This legislation is a simple step that can make a world of a difference."
Wittman continues his advocacy efforts by focusing on streamlining the adoption process, improving foster care systems, enhancing access to prenatal and postnatal services, and making childcare more affordable. His goal is to create an environment that empowers women with choices regarding life decisions while treating pregnant women with compassion and offering necessary support.
In recognition of local contributions, Wittman recently honored Henrico resident Autumn Zaborowski as the 2024 Angel in Adoption honoree from Virginia for her work with adoption and foster care support groups at her church and local Department of Social Services.
