Congressman Rob Wittman has announced that the Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act, also known as H.R. 1151, has gained over 60 cosponsors shortly after its introduction. The bipartisan bill aims to provide students and professionals with additional resources for tuition, exams, training, and supplies needed for postsecondary education workforce certifications.

"I’m pleased to see support continue to grow for the Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act," said Congressman Wittman. "The majority of America’s workforce consists of middle-skill jobs that require more than a high school education but not a bachelor’s degree."

The legislation seeks to expand the scope of qualified expenses under 529 savings plans. It includes postsecondary training and credentialing such as licenses and non-governmental certifications. This would offer tax-advantaged resources to families, students, and workers pursuing career growth or mid-career changes without necessarily having a college degree.

"The Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act is a bipartisan solution that empowers workers of all backgrounds," stated ASAE President and CEO Michelle Mason. "With support from more than 60 cosponsors, this commonsense legislation expands access to education and training."

Among the cosponsors are Reps. Steven Horsford (D-NV-04), Kevin Hern (R-OK-01), John Larson (D-CT-01), Brad Finstad (R-MN-01), Jennifer McClellan (D-VA-04), Mike Collins (R-GA-10), Jimmy Panetta (D-CA-19), Mike Carey (R-OH-15), Suhas Subramanyam (D-VA-10), Frank Mrvan (D-IN-01) among others.
