Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) has expressed his support for the impeachment of U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas. Wittman accuses Mayorkas of "willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law and breach of public trust." In a statement, Wittman stated that Mayorkas's actions have led to a "complete humanitarian and national security catastrophe."

Wittman claims that Mayorkas has neglected his duty to enforce laws passed by Congress and has abused his authority as a cabinet secretary. He further accuses Mayorkas of misleading both Congress and the American people about the crisis at the southern border and the role his decisions have played in exacerbating the situation.

According to Wittman, Mayorkas's refusal to comply with the law has resulted in unprecedented levels of illegal immigration, the fentanyl crisis, cartel control at the border, and significant human and financial costs. Wittman also criticizes Mayorkas for implementing a catch-and-release scheme that violates detention requirements and misuses parole authority.

Wittman emphasizes that Mayorkas has shown no intention of securing the nation's borders, disregarding his oath to the country. As a result, Wittman believes it is Congress's responsibility to hold executive branch officials accountable when they fail to uphold their oath of office, abuse their authority, or deceive the American people.

The articles of impeachment against Mayorkas were filed following a year-long investigation conducted by the House Committee on Homeland Security, led by Chairman Mark Green (TN-07). The investigation concluded that Mayorkas is primarily responsible for the chaos and devastation that has unfolded at America's borders over the past three years.

The articles of impeachment accuse Mayorkas of two offenses: willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law and breach of public trust. Under the first article, Mayorkas is alleged to have violated numerous provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act to implement a mass catch-and-release scheme. The second article claims that Mayorkas breached the trust of the public by knowingly making false statements about his open border policies and obstructing the oversight work of congressional committees.

In light of these allegations, Wittman voted in favor of impeaching Secretary Mayorkas, believing that his actions warrant removal from office. The impeachment resolution has been referred to the Senate for trial.

It remains to be seen how the Senate will respond to the articles of impeachment against Secretary Mayorkas.
