Colonial Athletic Association issued the following announcement on Jan. 22
Four of five games Saturday in the Colonial Athletic Association were decided by single digits, including three by four points or less and an overtime battle between the teams that entered the day in the top two spots in the CAA standings.
UNCW 81, Towson 77 (OT) | Box Score
Jaylen Fornes scored his 1,000th career point on a go-ahead three-pointer with 23 seconds remaining in overtime and UNCW remained unbeaten in the CAA after overcoming a 12-point second half deficit. Five Seahawks were in double figures, led by 18 points from Shykeim Phillips, as UNCW improved to 5-0 in conference play. UNCW outscored Towson 13-5 over the final seven minutes of regulation to force the extra session. Cam Holden scored 18 points and Charles Thompson added a double-double for the Tigers.
James Madison 95, Charleston 94 | Box Score
Vado Morse scored 32 points and James Madison used a key second half rally to earn a home victory despite trailing for 26 minutes. James Madison scored the final eight points of the first half to lead 48-45 at the break and led early out of the locker room before a 9-0 run put Charleston back in front. JMU’s 10-0 run would put the Dukes ahead 75-73 with 6:43 to play and would not trail again. Reyne Smith led Charleston with 21 points in the defeat.
Delaware 80, Elon 77 | Box Score
Delaware shot 56% in the first half, including 55% from three, to build a 12-point halftime advantage and held off a late Elon charge to improve to 5-2 in the CAA. The Blue Hen advantage would balloon to 18 before the Phoenix chipped away, getting to within three in the final minute. Dylan Painter tallied a double-double of 23 points and 12 rebounds in the victory, while Torrence Watson scored a team-high 20 points and Michael Graham added another double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds for Elon.
William & Mary 83, Drexel 75 | Box Score
Double-doubles from Brandon Carroll and Ben Wight helped William & Mary build a 21-point lead on the road and W&M held on down the stretch to even its CAA record at 3-3. The Tribe closed the first half on a 22-9 run to lead by six at the break and extended the cushion to 21 points with 6:42 to go. Drexel, powered by a 15-0 run, eventually cut the deficit to three with 70 seconds remaining before W&M closed out the game at the line. Wight tallied 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Carroll added 18 points and 10 boards. Camren Wynter led all scorers with 26 points for Drexel.
Hofstra 72, Northeastern 50 | Box Score
Hofstra jumped out to an 11-point lead at the half and doubled the margin in the second half to improve to 4-2 in CAA play. Zach Cooks scored 19 points, including the 2,000th of his career, in his return to action, while Aaron Estrada added 16 points and eight rebounds. The Pride collected 20 points off turnovers to the Huskies’ nine. Jahmyl Telfort and Chris Doherty were in double figures for Northeastern in the defeat.
