The national honors continue to roll in for several CAA Football players as the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and Athlon Sports announced their FCS All-America teams on Wednesday.
There were four CAA players recognized on the AFCA All-America squad. Earning first-team accolades were Villanova graduate student linebacker Forrest Rhyne and James Madison senior kicker Ethan Ratke. Making the second team were JMU senior defensive lineman Bryce Carter and JMU senior defensive back Greg Ross.
Rhyne led all FCS players this season with 154 total tackles and also recorded 8.5 TFL’s and 4.5 sacks. Ratke topped FCS with a school and CAA-record 29 field goals and was first in the nation with 150 total points. He finished his career as the NCAA leader in field goals (101) and points by a kicker (542). Carter led the CAA with 21.0 tackles for loss and added 53 total tackles, 9.0 sacks and three forced fumbles. Ross recorded 31 total tackles, a team-best 12 pass breakups and four interceptions for the Dukes.
The Athlon Sports FCS Postseason All-America team included Rhyne, Ratke, Villanova senior defensive back Christian Benford and JMU junior long snapper Kyle Davis.
Benford was the FCS leader in pass defended this season with seven interceptions and 18 pass breakups to go along with 39 tackles. Davis didn’t have a bad snap all season for JMU and helped pave the way for Ratke’s record-setting campaign.
