In the past two years, about 20 acres of Woodland Cemetery have been cleared of overgrowth. That means thousands of graves previously lost to nature are now accessible to family members and other visitors.
“It’s a good feeling to know that you have brought it from where it used to look to the way it looks right now,” said Marvin Harris, executive director of the Woodland Restoration Foundation. “If you could imagine one of the family members coming to you, and they cry and they thank you because they haven’t been able to get in and physically see their ancestors for 15 or 20 years.”
Congratulations to the nonprofit foundation on its stewardship of this historic property and its partnership with Henrico County.
