Congressman Rob Wittman has secured $295,000 in federal funding for improvements to the physical and cyber security of the public water system in Williamsburg. The funding was included in the Commerce, Justice, Science; Energy and Water Development; and Interior and Environment Appropriations Act of 2026, which was signed into law on January 23.

“I am pleased to see that my $295,000 funding request for the City of Williamsburg’s Public Water System has been signed into law,” said Rep. Wittman. “This funding will modernize Williamsburg’s physical and cybersecurity systems — protecting the city’s critical infrastructure and ensuring the people across the city have access to clean and reliable water.”

The funds will be used to install updated terminals, conduct penetration testing on cybersecurity systems, and upgrade physical security infrastructure at water facilities in Williamsburg. These steps come as concerns grow about attempts by state-sponsored groups and other organizations to target critical infrastructure sectors such as water, energy, and transportation.

According to Rep. Wittman’s office, these enhancements are intended to prevent disruptions that could leave thousands without access to clean drinking water while reducing potential financial impacts on taxpayers if systems are compromised.

Community Project Funding (CPF) is a process that lets members of Congress direct federal dollars toward specific needs in their districts rather than relying solely on decisions made by federal agencies. According to Wittman’s office, CPF projects are funded within existing budget limits.

Rob Wittman has represented Virginia’s 1st district in Congress since 2007 after serving previously at local government levels. He was born in Washington, D.C., holds a degree from Virginia Tech earned in 1981, and lives in Montross.
