Congressman Rob Wittman of Virginia’s 1st District, along with 20 other Republican members of the House of Representatives, sent a letter on Apr. 17 to U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright supporting the Genesis Mission and its role in providing energy for artificial intelligence advancements.
The Genesis Mission was established by an executive order from President Trump on November 24, 2025. Its goal is to position the United States as a leader in artificial intelligence while enhancing economic and national security.
Wittman said, “The Genesis Mission correctly identifies that AI is no longer just an economic engine; it is a domain of national security and strategic advantage.” He added, “The economic and national security implications of the Genesis Mission are staggering. By leading the world in fission and fusion deployment, the U.S. will wield energy dominance just as we have with oil and gas. The ‘quantum ecosystem’ this energy enables will unlock new materials for defense, aerospace, energy, and medicine, securing our supply chains against foreign disruption.”
Rob Wittman has represented Virginia’s 1st district in Congress since replacing Jo Ann Davis in 2007 according to his biography. Before joining Congress, he served on the Westmoreland County Board of Supervisors from 2006 to 2007 and previously was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates as reported by official records.
Wittman was born in Washington, D.C., in 1959 and currently resides in Montross according to public information. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1981 as noted by his alma mater.
Supporters say that advancing domestic AI capabilities through missions like Genesis could help secure critical industries against international threats while fostering innovation.
