Representatives Rob Wittman (VA-01), Jen Kiggans (VA-02), John McGuire (VA-05), and Ben Cline (VA-06) issued a joint statement condemning reported violent and threatening remarks made by Virginia Attorney General candidate Jay Jones.

The statement from the delegation read: “Public service demands the highest standard of conduct and integrity. The newly reported violent and threatening comments made by Jay Jones are reprehensible and should disqualify him from the race for Attorney General in Virginia. Political violence and threats have no place in our democracy, and all leaders must be held to the highest standards. Our shared responsibility is to protect Virginians’ trust in their government. We urge Mr. Jones to do what is right for Virginians and for the integrity of the office by stepping aside and dropping out of the race for Attorney General.”

Rob Wittman has been serving as the U.S. Representative for Virginia’s 1st district since 2007, after succeeding Jo Ann Davis. Before his tenure in Congress, Wittman served in the Virginia House of Delegates and on the Westmoreland County Board of Supervisors between 2006 and 2007. He was born in Washington, D.C., in 1959, is currently 64 years old, lives in Montross, and graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1981.
