Congressman Rob Wittman, who represents Virginia’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, released a statement following the announcement that Virginia will receive $189,544,888 from the Rural Health Transformation Program in 2026. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) stated that this federal funding is intended to help states improve access to care in rural communities, strengthen the rural health workforce, modernize facilities and technology, and support new models of delivering dependable care.

“I am pleased to see that Virginia has been awarded $189,544,888 through the Rural Health Transformation Program,” said Rep. Wittman. “This funding will support and sustain our rural health institutions — ensuring that Virginians have access to quality, affordable care, no matter where they live.”

Earlier this year, Congressman Wittman joined other members of Congress representing Virginia—Jen Kiggans (VA-02), John McGuire (VA-05), Ben Cline (VA-06), and Morgan Griffith (VA-09)—in sending a letter to CMS supporting Virginia’s application for the program.

The Rural Health Transformation Program was established by the Working Families Tax Cut and is designed to allocate $50 billion nationwide to rural health institutions. The program aims to use emerging technologies and new models of healthcare delivery to improve patient outcomes.

Rob Wittman has served in Congress since 2007 after previously serving in state and local government roles. He was born in Washington, D.C., graduated from Virginia Tech with a BS in 1981, and currently lives in Montross.
