Tuckahoe Elementary School has been recognized as a 2025 National Blue Ribbon School by the Virginia Board of Education, highlighting its strong performance in math and reading. The school received the honor in the Exemplary High Performing School category, one of two categories for the award.

Principal Sonia Ford and Ingrid Grant, Chief of Leadership for Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS), attended the official recognition at the Virginia Board of Education meeting in Richmond. “This recognition reflects the daily dedication of our teachers and support staff, whose commitment to high expectations, collaboration and care for every child makes excellence possible,” Ford said. “It celebrates our students, who rise to challenges with curiosity, perseverance and a love of learning.”

Superintendent Amy Cashwell, School Board Member Marcie Shea, Jody K. Rogish from the Board of Supervisors, and Grant visited Tuckahoe Elementary to celebrate with teachers, staff, and students. Dr. Cashwell stated: “The School Board and I are incredibly proud of what this designation means for the Tuckahoe community and for Henrico Schools. It is a testament to the true teamwork between Tuckahoe’s leadership team and instructional and support staff, as well as the trust and engagement of our families.”

This year marked a change in administration for the program; it shifted from being managed by the U.S. Department of Education to individual states. Tuckahoe Elementary was among seven schools in Virginia to earn this distinction in 2025.
