Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) appeared on Fox Business to express his concerns about the Biden administration's approach to China and the Chinese Communist Party's use of TikTok for promoting anti-American propaganda.
Regarding President Biden's claim that Xi Jinping agreed to help curb the flow of fentanyl from China, Wittman criticized the strategy, stating, "You don't capitulate to China first, and hope that they follow suit. This just doesn't work. We've seen previously when Biden administration officials have gone there, they've asked for things to be done. China has not done those things."
Wittman also criticized President Biden for meeting with Xi Jinping without setting preconditions. He argued that China has become adept at manipulating the situation to their advantage, using their vast market as leverage. Wittman stated, "American businesses are tripping over themselves instead of saying 'What are you doing concerning intellectual property theft? What are you doing to protect the value of what they transact there in China?' They won't assert themselves against Xi, and when you don't do that, Xi will take advantage of that."
Moreover, Wittman expressed disappointment that President Biden failed to confront Xi Jinping on important issues such as the Chinese spy balloon incident and the presence of a Chinese Communist Party police station in the United States. Wittman emphasized the need for the United States to address intellectual property theft and military communications to ensure stability and hold China accountable for its actions.
Turning to TikTok, Wittman highlighted the platform's role in promoting anti-American propaganda orchestrated by the Chinese Communist Party. He stated, "China is using this to manipulate public opinion, to foment discord, and continue this antisemitic flow." Wittman called into question the usefulness of TikTok and advocated for a reevaluation of public policy concerning the platform. He emphasized the need for federal action and legislation to address how TikTok is being used.
In summary, Congressman Wittman criticized President Biden's China strategy, highlighting the need for a stronger and more assertive approach when dealing with China and Xi Jinping. He also raised concerns about the Chinese Communist Party's use of TikTok to promote anti-American propaganda and called for federal action to address the issue.
