For the second week in a row, the Colonial Athletic Association has a Volleyball student-athlete receiving national recognition. Delaware’s Lani Mason was named the Game Changer/AVCA Division I Women’s Player of the Week by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) just after lunch.
The honor comes after Mason took home CAA Offensive Player of the Week honors on Monday afternoon. Mason recorded one of the most impressive stat lines in NCAA Volleyball this season, with 38 kills on a .324 hitting percentage and 24 digs in a five-set victory over Charleston on Sunday. Both totals are career-highs for the senior from Chester, Va., while the kill total established a new Delaware program record, which she set just two weeks before (35). It was Mason's third 30+ kill performance this season, and she currently holds two of the top five single-match kill totals in the NCAA this fall.
On the season, Mason has five double-doubles and has reached at least 10 kills in every match. She leads the nation with 5.65 kills per set and ranks second nationally in points per set (6.10). After a win on Monday, Delaware is one of 11 teams in the country, maintaining at least a nine-match winning streak and has started 6-0 in CAA play for the first time since 2009.
