Colonial Athletic Association issued the following announcement on Oct. 5
The fifth week of the cross country season is in the books following a busy week for Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) teams. The conference office recognized Jacob Jones of William & Mary as the CAA Men’s Runner of the week, and James Madison’s Miranda Stanhope earned CAA Women’s Runner of the Week honors.
MEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Jacob Jones, William & Mary
Junior | Weyers Cave, Va. / Fort Defiance
Jones paced William & Mary at the Paul Short Run, finishing 57th out of 357 competitors. The junior ran the 8K course in a personal-best time of 24:24.6. Jones helped William & Mary finish 12th out of 40 teams in the overall standings, including ahead of 13 regionally-ranked opponents and one national-ranked foe (No. 12 Iona).
WOMEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Miranda Stanhope, James Madison
Sophomore | Kinsman, Ohio / Badger HS
Stanhope registered a top-20 individual finish at the Paul Short Run, placing 16th out of 341 runners. The sophomore paced all CAA runners in the event, covering the 6K course in a time 20:26.3. Stanhope’s effort led James Madison to an 18th place finish in the 38-team field.
Men’s Notes
Jack Wedge led Charleston for the second consecutive meet, finishing 37th with a time of 28:04.2 at the Chanticleer Classic. The Cougars placed sixth in the team standings at the event … Elon placed four runners in the top 20 at the Chanticleer Classis to finish runner-up in the team standings. Aiden Tierney paced the Phoenix, finishing ninth (26:00.9), Zane Jackson placed 11th (26:20.0), followed by Cameron Dunn in 12th (26:30.3) and Andrew Miller took 20th (26:52.3) … Hofstra ran at the 47th Paul Short Run, competing in the men’s brown division. Zach Van Houten placed fourth in the section with a time of 24:49.8 … Collin Dempsey led UNCW at the Chanticleer Classic, finishing inside the top 50 with a time of 28:31.7 (45th) … William & Mary placed 12th out of 40 teams in the final standings in the Paul Short Run men’s gold division. Jacobs, Spencer Tsai (74th; 24:33.3) and Sam Pritchard (85th; 24:38.3) finished inside the top 100 for the Tribe.
Women’s Notes
Cate Ambrose paced Charleston at the Chanticleer Classic, finishing 20th with a time of 18:51.3. The Cougars placed fifth in the team standings, and Ambrose has been their top finisher in all three races this season … Julien Webster was the top Delaware finisher at the Paul Short Run. Webster took 35th in the brown division with a time of 22:07.6 … Elon placed two runners in the top five at the Chanticleer Classic en route to a runner-up team finish. Maria Ahm took second (17:45.5) while Maggie Springer came in fifth (18:01.4) to lead the Phoenix … Hofstra competed in the Paul Short Run as Jordyn McDonnell led the Pride with an 11th place finish (21:34.8) in the brown division … James Madison finished 18th in the team standings of the Paul Short Run gold division. Stanhope led the Dukes and posted the fastest time among CAA athletes … Summer Owens paced UNCW at the Chanticleer Classic, finishing 32nd with a time of 19:28.3. The Seahawks finished seventh overall in the final team standings … Ainsley Jacobs ran a personal-best 21:16.7 to finish fourth in the Paul Short Run brown division as Towson finished sixth in the team standings … Kyra Holland was the top William & Mary finisher in the Paul Short Run gold division. She covered the course in a time of 21:08.8 to place 55th.
