Colonial Athletic Association issued the following announcement on Sept. 15

Delaware senior Roberto Nieves and UNCW junior Mallory Fobes have been selected by the Colonial Athletic Association as Golfers of the Week for their performances in the previous week of competition.

MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK

Roberto Nieves, Delaware

Senior | Miami, Fla. | Christopher Columbus

Nieves repeats as CAA Men’s Golfer of the Week after helping the Blue Hens storm back to win the Golfweek Fall Challenge. The senior from Miami was 10-under in the 54-hole event as Delaware erased a 17-stroke deficit entering the final round to win the event in Myrtle Beach. Nieves’ 206, which placed him in a tie for fourth out of 93 competitors, was tied for the third-lowest three-round score in program history.

WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK

Mallory Fobes, UNCW

Junior | East Bend, N.C. / Forbush

Fobes authored the first top-five finish of her college career to place third at the William & Mary Invitational. The junior matched the UNCW single-round record with a six-under 66 in the second round and led the field in eagles (2) and birdies (12). The Seahawks finished third as a team at the tournament and Fobes was the top CAA participant among the four league members competing.

Men’s Notes

Charleston was off last week and will open its season Monday when it hosts the Battle at Briars Creek on Johns Island … Delaware lowered its program-best 54-hole score by 14 strokes (JMU Invitational, 2005) to battle back and defeat Mercer by one stroke Tuesday … Drexel finished eighth as a team at the Golfweek Fall Challenge with NC State transfer Drue Nicholas placing ninth in his first Dragon tournament … William Frodigh led Elon at the Rod Myers Invitational, as the Phoenix opened the season at Duke’s home tournament … Hofstra was led by Jaxon Hummel at The Doc Gimmler, played over the weekend at Bethpage State Park … James Madison was under par in all three rounds of the VCU Shootout and led by a seventh-place result from Ignacio Montero … UNCW moved up two spots on the final day of the Rod Myers Invitational to place ninth in the field … Towson freshman Philip Minnehan carded a final-round 66 as the Tigers finished ninth at The Doc Gimmler … William & Mary recorded a program-best 54-hole score of 850 to tie for third at the VCU Shootout.

Women’s Notes

Charleston began the year by hosting the Cougar Classic with a field of 17 teams all in the top 104 in the Golfweek rankings … Christina Carroll tied for fifth at one-under as Delaware finished sixth at the Golfweek Fall Challenge … Elon was one spot behind the Blue Hens in seventh place, led by a ninth-place finish from Adel Vadkerti … Hofstra will begin its fall season Thursday with a dual match against Wagner on Long Island … James Madison captured the team title at the William & Mary Invitational, which featured four CAA teams … UNCW had three golfers in the top 10 (Mallory Fobes, Phu Khine, Malu Brinker) in Williamsburg … Towson made the trip to W&M and was led by Odette Font Garcia, who recorded 11 birdies over 54 holes … William & Mary hosted its fall tournament at Kingsmill and was led by a top-10 finish from Sarah Houle.
