Colonial Athletic Association issued the following announcement on July 16
Eighteen alumni of CAA teams will compete in The Basketball Tournament, which begins Friday with games in the Wichita Regional.
Six CAA schools will be represented in the four regionals to be played across the country over the next two weeks. James Madison leads all CAA programs with seven participants, as the Dukes have six men’s alumni competing along with women’s alum Kamiah Smalls, the 2020 CAA Player of the Year who is the only women’s college basketball alum in the event. The contingent from Harrisonburg will play for the Founding Fathers alumni team.
Towson alum Zane Martin, a second-team All-CAA honoree in March, will jump into professional competition on a team with fellow Tiger John Davis and Drexel alum Troy Harper Jr., as the three represent Philadelphia high school Neumann-Goretti.
Two recipients of CAA Player of the Year honors will play in The Basketball Tournament, as two-time winner Charles Jenkins of Hofstra (2010, 2011) suits up for The Money Team, and 2015 Player of the Year Marcus Thornton of William & Mary wears the uniform of The Region. W&M alum Terry Tarpey, the last two-time winner of Defensive Player of the Year honors (2015, 2016), joins Bleed Virginia for the event.
CAA alumni will begin their competition in the 64-team event on Saturday when NG Saints tips off. Regionals in Wichita, Kansas and Charleston, West Virginia will be contested this weekend with competition in Columbus, Ohio and Champaign, Illinois following next weekend. The final two teams standing will compete in a million-dollar game on Tuesday, Aug. 3 in Dayton, Ohio. A full TV schedule is available HERE.
