Rep. Rob Wittman, who has represented Virginia’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress since 2007, recently addressed several key issues affecting his constituents through a series of social media posts. Wittman, a former marine scientist and lifelong fisherman, highlighted legislative initiatives and community visits that align with his background and ongoing policy interests.
On July 14, 2025, Wittman emphasized the importance of accurate data for coastal communities, stating: “Coastal communities depend on accurate data and smart planning. I’m proud to help introduce the bipartisan Digital Coast Reauthorization Act to ensure communities have the tools they need to strengthen resilience and plan for the future.”
Later that day, he visited a local business integral to Virginia’s economy and national defense. In his post dated July 14, 2025, he wrote: “Virginia’s manufacturing and service industries are essential to both our economy and national defense. I had a great visit to @CarterMachinery’s Mechanicsville facility where we discussed how their work supports our military and creates good jobs.”
In another message posted on Shark Awareness Day, July 14, 2025, Wittman drew attention to marine conservation efforts: “Sharks play a vital role in keeping our oceans healthy. As a lifelong fisherman and former marine scientist, I’ve seen the impacts of shark depredation and have witnessed its negative effects on our marine ecosystem. On this Shark Awareness Day, I am proud to have introduced the”.
Wittman was born in Washington, D.C., in 1959 and currently resides in Montross. He is an alumnus of Virginia Tech (class of 1981) and previously served in both the Virginia House of Delegates and on the Westmoreland County Board of Supervisors before joining Congress.
