Rep. Rob Wittman, who represents Virginia’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently highlighted efforts to support coastal economies and public services through a series of posts on his social media account.
On February 6, 2026, Wittman emphasized the importance of local maritime industries by stating, “Working waterfronts are the backbone of our coastal economy. That’s why I fought for funding to dredge Winter Harbor — restoring safe navigation and protecting local jobs and livelihoods. Three days later, on February 9, he announced federal support for regional infrastructure projects: “I am proud to return over $800 thousand to the First District’s Middle Peninsula Chesapeake Bay Public Access Authority to support their efforts to secure upland dredge material sites. Later that day, Wittman informed constituents about available government services: “Do you need help with checking on Social Security benefits, renewing a passport, or processing a VA claim? My district offices in Glen Allen and Yorktown are open every day, but my team is also hosting mobile office hours in Kilmarnock tomorrow to assist constituents with https://t.co/rkzMIPRLkw”.
Wittman has represented Virginia’s 1st district since 2007 after succeeding Jo Ann Davis. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates and served on the Westmoreland County Board of Supervisors from 2006 to 2007. Born in Washington, D.C., in 1959 and currently residing in Montross at age 64, Wittman holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Tech earned in 1981.
