Rep. Rob Wittman, U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 1st district since 2007, recently addressed a range of national and local issues through a series of posts on his official social media account.
On April 30, 2026, Wittman announced his vote to end the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shutdown, stating, “Today, I voted to reopen the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to restore stability and safety for all Americans. For 76 days, DHS personnel went without reliable pay as partisan gridlock disrupted critical services. It was past time to end this costly shutdown and secure our”.
The following day, May 1, Wittman highlighted the importance of mental health advocacy during Mental Health Awareness Month. He wrote, “As a father and grandfather of young children, I know that mental health advocacy and support is critical to ensuring a healthy, functioning society. This Mental Health Awareness Month, join in me in advocating for parents, educators, students, law enforcement, servicemembers,”.
Later on May 1, Wittman shared details about a roundtable discussion he convened with defense leaders and industry executives focused on Virginia’s role in national defense. He stated: “Today, I convened senior defense leaders and industry executives alongside Under Secretary of War for Acquisition and Sustainment, Michael Duffey, for a roundtable discussion focused on Virginia’s role in America’s defense, strengthening the U.S. defense industrial base, and”.
Wittman has represented Virginia’s 1st District since replacing Jo Ann Davis in 2007 after previously serving in the Virginia House of Delegates and on the Westmoreland County Board of Supervisors from 2006 to 2007. Born in Washington D.C. in 1959 and currently residing in Montross at age 64, Wittman graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1981.
