Rep. Rob Wittman, who represents Virginia’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, has used his social media platform to update constituents about the ongoing government shutdown and his office’s continued services.
On October 6, 2025, Wittman posted, “Despite the shutdown, my office is here to help residents of Virginia’s First District with issues they are facing with federal agencies. While we await action from the Senate, I am committed to keeping you informed about how the shutdown may or may not affect you.”
The following day, October 7, 2025, he reiterated his office’s commitment to constituent services, stating, “Do you need help with checking on Social Security benefits, renewing a passport, or processing a VA claim? My district offices in Glen Allen and Yorktown are open every day, but my team is also hosting mobile office hours in Tappahannock tomorrow to assist constituents with https://t.co/OYVWJZg2lE”
On October 8, 2025, Wittman commented on a political opponent, writing, “Jay Jones’s comments reflect a lack of judgement and respect for human life — qualities that should disqualify anyone from running for public office. It’s hard to see how someone could ignore those characteristics and claim that Jones is the ‘better person’ to be the next https://t.co/7bk8lrGnVk”
Wittman has represented Virginia’s 1st district in Congress since 2007, succeeding Jo Ann Davis. He previously served in the Virginia House of Delegates and on the Westmoreland County Board of Supervisors. Born in Washington, D.C. in 1959, Wittman is 64 years old and resides in Montross. He is a graduate of Virginia Tech, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1981.
