Jordyn Satterfield, a chorus teacher at Quioccasin Middle School, has been named the 2026 Henrico Teacher of the Year. Satterfield, who attended Shady Grove Elementary School, Short Pump Middle School, and Deep Run High School in Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS), was selected from five finalists representing each magisterial district in the county.

Satterfield was surprised with the announcement in her classroom by HCPS Superintendent Amy Cashwell, Henrico School Board Chair Marcie Shea, Quioccasin principal Robert Stevens, other administrators and peers, as well as her parents. She is a 2017 graduate of Deep Run High School.

“I’m just very grateful. As teachers, we all work so hard, but to receive this recognition is such a win for our school, music education and our students. I’m just very proud and honored,” Satterfield said after learning about the award. “I grew up in Henrico, so this is not just my award; it belongs to the Henrico teachers who shaped me and helped me get to where I am, as well as the colleagues who continue to inspire me every day.”

A committee of administrators and educators selected Satterfield through an interview and review process that included submissions focused on “Impact Through Belonging.” Her teaching career began at Quioccasin in 2021. Since then, she has emphasized culture, community, and engaged learning. The chorus program at Quioccasin has more than doubled in size since her arrival.

Superintendent Amy Cashwell commented on Satterfield’s impact: “Your passion reaches beyond the sweet harmony in the classroom to make a profound difference in the lives of your students and our community. That is the true measure of Henrico’s Teacher of the Year,” Dr. Cashwell said. “We are thrilled to have you represent Henrico County Public Schools’ outstanding teachers.”

In addition to teaching chorus, Satterfield serves as head cheerleading coach at Quioccasin Middle School and volunteers as music director for the school’s theater program. She has chaired district-level assessments for middle school singers and high school ensembles and contributed to mentorship programs throughout Henrico County and beyond. Satterfield graduated from the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music and is active in several professional organizations.
