Northeastern University senior Alexander Korczynski will compete in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships beginning Wednesday. The men’s and women’s NCAA Championships will take place Wednesday, June 8, through Saturday, June 11, at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

The Huskie distance runner will compete in the 3000m steeplechase semifinals at 8:02 p.m. (EST) on Wednesday, June 8. The finals for the 3000m steeplechase are slated for 9:24 p.m. on Friday, June 10. Day one of the men’s competition will air on ESPN2, and the entire weekend of competition will be broadcasted across the ESPN family of networks.

Korczynski qualified for the National Championships after running a lifetime best 8:39.16 in the steeplechase at the NCAA East Preliminaries, finishing third in his heat to secure an automatic berth. His time was the sixth-best overall in the region, and Korczynski holds the 15th fastest time among the 24-competitor field entering the semifinals.

The Willimantic, Conn. native will be competing in his second straight NCAA Championships after earning honorable mention All-American accolades in 2021. Korczynski was the first Northeastern runner in program history to qualify for the National Championships in the 3000m steeplechase last season.

Korczynski is a three-time Colonial Athletic Association Champion in the 3000m steeplechase. He set the Championship meet record last year (8:49.71) before becoming the first three-peat champion in the event since 1999-2001 this season.

It marks the fourth straight season that Men’s CAA Track and Field will be represented at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
