Henrico County Public Schools has appointed Dr. Michelle Boyd as its new chief of staff, effective in March. Boyd brings over 23 years of experience in education, including classroom teaching and leadership roles.
Boyd is currently a regional assistant superintendent for Fairfax County Public Schools, where she oversees 24 schools and 24,000 students. In this role, she has led efforts to improve student learning outcomes and build partnerships with families and community organizations.
Her previous positions include assistant superintendent for special services at Fairfax Schools, where she managed special education programs, student services, health services, and language services. She has also held leadership roles with Richmond Public Schools and a regional program supporting students with disabilities in Charlottesville. Boyd began her career as a special education teacher and continues to advocate for students with disabilities.
“Dr. Boyd is an innovative and collaborative leader with a proven track record of meaningful results,” said Henrico Schools Superintendent Amy Cashwell. “Her work aligning resources and people has contributed to measurable gains in Algebra I enrollment, English learner progress and reading proficiency among students with disabilities.”
As chief of staff, Boyd will collaborate with central office and school leaders to align departmental efforts, lead policy development, and oversee the Department of Accountability, Research and Evaluation.
This appointment marks a return to Henrico for Boyd; her family resides in the county and her children are recent graduates of Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS).
“I am energized to join the Henrico team and serve a community that means so much to my family,” Boyd said. “My children had an outstanding school experience, and I know first-hand the division’s commitment to students and employees. I look forward to working with Dr. Cashwell, the School Board, staff and families to empower every learner.”
Boyd holds a doctorate in educational policy, planning, and leadership from the College of William & Mary as well as degrees from the University of Maryland and Clarion University in Pennsylvania.
