Henrico County Government announced on October 14, 2025, that it has become the first public utility in the United States to earn a triple-A rating for its water and sewer revenue bonds from all four major credit rating agencies.
In a tweet posted at 10:10 p.m. UTC, Board Chair Dan Schmitt stated, “Board Chair Dan Schmitt is noting that Henrico is the first public utility in the nation to earn a triple-A rating for its water & sewer revenue bonds from the four major credit rating agencies. The award was announced earlier today: https://t.co/pHrKSGy2Eh”. The announcement was made during a regular meeting of the county’s governing board.
The financial impact of this recognition was highlighted in a subsequent tweet at 10:11 p.m. UTC: “The quadruple-triple A bond rating translates into millions of dollars of savings for Henrico taxpayers when the county sells bonds for utility projects.”
Residents interested in participating remotely in public hearings or comment portions of meetings were provided guidance via WebEx by the county government in an earlier tweet on October 14: “You can participate remotely if you’re watching on WebEx. To join a public hearing or the public comment portion of the regular meeting, please see this guidance: https://t.co/E7ShnbXisu.”
Henrico County, located in Virginia, also operates one public school district—Henrico County Public Schools—which enrolled over 50,000 students during the 2023-24 academic year, with Deep Run High School reporting the highest enrollment among its 68 schools. The district saw a slight increase in total enrollment compared to the previous year, and Black students made up the largest ethnic group within the student body, accounting for more than one-third of total enrollment. Holladay Elementary School led pre-kindergarten enrollment among county schools.
