Henrico County Government shared updates on October 15, 2025, regarding the allocation of proceeds from surplus real estate sales and an updated water agreement with Cumberland County.

In a post made on October 15, 2025, Henrico County Government stated, “Virginia law requires that the Board of Supervisors approve the School Board’s retention of all or a portion of proceeds from the sale of surplus real estate.” On the same day, the county provided details about the use of these funds: “With $3.6M from the sale being appropriated to cover project shortfalls at Longan & Jackson Davis elementary schools, the School Board will retain $1.4M from the sale.” Additionally, Henrico County Government announced an update to a previous agreement: “The Board has approved a resolution that updates a 2011 water agreement with Cumberland County that initially was negotiated as part of the development of the Virgil R. Hazelett Reservoir at Cobbs Creek.”

Henrico County Public Schools District is the only school district in Henrico County and enrolled 50,464 students during the 2023-24 school year, according to data from the Virginia Department of Education (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). The district experienced a slight increase in enrollment compared to the previous year, with a total of 50,383 students—0.1% more than in 2022-23 (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). Among its 68 schools, Deep Run High School had the highest enrollment at 2,039 students (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home). Black students represented the largest ethnic group in Henrico County schools during this period, totaling 17,966 students or 35.7% of total enrollment (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home), followed by white students at 31.9%. Holladay Elementary School enrolled the largest number of pre-kindergarten students, with 212 children making up 17.2% of all pre-kindergarteners in the county (https://www.doe.virginia.gov/home).

The recent financial decisions and updated agreements reflect ongoing efforts by county officials to manage resources for school projects and regional infrastructure.
