Henrico County Government announced on October 15, 2025, that it plans to reserve land for future uses, including open space preservation and the addition of parkland with walking and biking trails.

In a post made on October 15, 2025, Henrico County Government stated, “The county plans to set aside the land for various potential future uses, such as the preservation of open space and the addition of parkland with walking & biking trails.” On the same day, another update followed: “The Board has approved a resolution accepting an open-space easement at Woodland Cemetery from the Woodland Restoration Foundation. The easement will enable the county to maintain and protect the resources of the historic African American cemetery.” A third message provided additional resources: “Learn more about Henrico’s ongoing efforts to support the restoration of Woodland Cemetery: https://t.co/cUqS2CocXi”

Henrico County is home to a single public school district that enrolled 50,464 students during the 2023-24 school year, according to data from the Virginia Department of Education (source). Black students represented the largest ethnic group in Henrico County schools that year, making up 35.7% of enrollment (source). The county’s ongoing efforts to preserve open spaces and historic sites like Woodland Cemetery align with its broader community initiatives.
