Henrico County Government highlighted the county’s efforts to repurpose unutilized land for new projects, as shared in a series of tweets on April 18, 2026.
Sam Hudson, Director of Henrico’s Sustainability Division, commented on the broader trend among localities: “We know that increasingly localities are sort of taking wind of this and beginning to assess the feasibility of doing it at other closed landfills,” (April 18, 2026). He continued, “so it’s great to know that Henrico County was on the leading edge of doing something like this and making good use of unutilized land.” (April 18, 2026).
The county reported significant projected savings from this initiative: “The installation is expected to save taxpayers an estimated $600,000 to $700,000 in electricity costs over the course of the 30-year contract.” (April 18, 2026).

Deep Run High School recorded the highest enrollment among its schools with over two thousand students. Black students represented the largest ethnic group in Henrico schools at nearly 36% of total enrollment during that period (source).
