Henrico County Government announced on January 26, 2026, that standard library services and all other county facilities would be closed the following Tuesday due to a winter storm.
In a series of posts, Henrico County Government stated, “Standard library services such as computers, printing, book checkouts and study rooms will not be available. All other county facilities will be closed Tuesday due to impacts from the winter storm.” The government also noted that while refreshments would not be provided at certain locations, visitors were encouraged to bring their own items: “Visitors are welcome to bring personal devices and entertainment items such as phones, tablets and board games. Visitors also may bring water bottles and snacks. Refreshments will not be provided.” Additionally, they extended an invitation for community members seeking relief from cold temperatures or needing to charge devices: “Individuals and families are welcome to visit the warming centers to escape from the cold or recharge a device.”
Henrico County is home to a single public school district—Henrico County Public Schools—which enrolled 50,464 students during the 2023-24 academic year (Virginia Department of Education). Among its 68 schools, Deep Run High School had the highest enrollment with 2,039 students (Virginia Department of Education). During this period, Black students made up the largest ethnic group in the district at 35.7% of total enrollment (Virginia Department of Education). Overall student numbers in Henrico County schools saw a slight increase of 0.1% over the previous year (Virginia Department of Education), with Holladay Elementary enrolling the largest number of pre-kindergarten students in the county (Virginia Department of Education).
The closures reflect Henrico County’s response to hazardous weather conditions impacting public services and community access.
