Dawn Mast, a kindergarten teacher at Gayton Elementary School, was recognized as the “Yay of the Day” honoree by Superintendent Amy Cashwell on April 15. The recognition took place at Gayton Elementary and highlights Mast’s contributions to her students and school community.

Nominator Nina Khataybeh said, “Mrs. Mast brings incredible energy and warmth each and every day! As parent of a starting KG’er knowing our child feels that positivity and encouragement gives us peace of mind. The experience of education, feeling encouraged and a sense of patience as you are learning sets the foundation for your learning career, to love learning all starts with inspirational teachers that love what they do, just like Mrs. Mast! Thank you!”
Khataybeh also noted Mast’s efforts to foster inclusivity: “She invited us to share our travels and culture with the rest of our son’s class! That invitation presents as an openness and willingness to foster a sense of belonging through the sharing of what makes us, us!”
Another nominator, Sarah Ligh, said, “She is truly an exceptional educator who goes above and beyond every single day. Her dedication, kindnessand passion for teaching make a lasting impact on her students. Because of her, my child absolutely loves going to school and comes home excited to share what he has learned each day. Just as importantly, I have complete peace of mind knowing my child is safe, supported and cared for in her classroom. We feel so fortunate to have her — she is simply the best teacher ever!”
