Jalissa Washington, Nura Surita, Elena Whitlock, and Richard Lundy, staff members at Fairfield Middle School in Henrico County, Virginia, were recognized as “Yay of the Day” honorees for their quick response during a recent emergency. Superintendent Amy Cashwell presented the honor to them.
According to nominator LaKeisha Fleming, an incident occurred at Fairfield Middle School when a vehicle collided with a building. “Mr. Lundy witnessed the incident. Nurse Washington, along with Mrs. Whitlock and Mrs. Surita, jumped into action to assist the driver, who was apparently suffering a medical emergency. EMS was contacted and the driver was taken away.
“The wife of the driver later visited Fairfield to let the staff know they saved a life! Her husband did indeed suffer a massive heart attack and underwent surgery. We here at Fairfield are very proud of our colleagues who assisted!”
The four staff members’ actions are part of Henrico County Public Schools’ ongoing commitment to delivering positive learning experiences through dedicated educational and support personnel.
