Henrico County Public Schools will hold a grand opening for the new Campus of Virginia Randolph on Wednesday, January 14, from 4 to 6 p.m. at 2204 Mountain Road in Glen Allen. The event is open to families, alumni, and community members and will feature guided tours that highlight both the modern facilities and the historical significance of the campus.
The school division describes the Campus of Virginia Randolph as more than just a school. Its origins date back to 1892 when educator Virginia Randolph established a one-room school for Black children, combining academic instruction with practical learning and working closely with families to support students.
Today, the renovated campus includes updated facilities while preserving its historic legacy. It houses several programs: The Academy at Virginia Randolph (AVR), the Virginia Randolph Education Center (VREC), the Advanced Career Education (ACE) Center at Virginia Randolph, HCPS’ Elementary Intervention Program, and serves as a community hub for the Division of Family and Community Engagement.
A statement from Henrico County Public Schools reads: “Join Henrico Schools as we honor the extraordinary legacy of an educational pioneer and celebrate a campus that continues to open doors for students.”
Henrico County Public Schools provides educational services across Henrico County, adjacent to Richmond, employing dedicated staff in classrooms and support roles to foster student achievement. The division has received recognition for instructional quality and partners with organizations such as the Henrico Education Foundation to advance educational initiatives. More information about these efforts can be found on their official website.
The grand opening aims to connect current students and community members with both the past and present mission of supporting student success throughout Henrico County.
