Barbara Myers, an instructional assistant at Douglas S. Freeman High School, was recognized as the “Yay of the Day” honoree, according to a statement from Superintendent Amy Cashwell on April 24. Cashwell recently presented the honor to Myers at Freeman.
The recognition highlights the importance of dedicated educational staff in supporting students and fostering positive learning environments. Henrico County Public Schools focused on delivering positive learning experiences to students via dedicated staff in educational and support roles, as noted on the official website.
Myers was nominated by Bailly Suhr, who said, “She is an incredibly hardworking member of Freeman’s Integrated Services department and has been for 15 years. She creates a positive environment wherever she goes and helps to hold students accountable in a way that helps them grow and learn from their actions.” Suhr added, “Her ability to add brightness and positivity to emotional situations. Students she works with have cognitive and emotional weaknesses that sometimes make it difficult to regulate their emotions at time, and Barbara works hard to help create an engaging and stimulating learning environment for students to express themselves in ways they need to.”
