Virginia Department of Aviation recently issued the following announcement on Feb. 8.

The Virginia Aviation Business Association held the annual Aviation, Aerospace and UAS Legislative reception at Main Street Station in Richmond on February 2.

More than 430 guests from across the Commonwealth came to participate in one of the largest legislative reception events during session. The Virginia Department of Aviation proudly partnered with VABA and was on hand for the event.

Public Relations and Education Manager Betty Wilson and Public Relations and Education Specialist David Halstead represented DOAV as exhibitors. Wilson and Halstead answered questions from attendees about the department and its mission. They provided guests with the 2022-23 Aviation calendar as well as scholarship information and other giveaways.

The Legislative reception was attended by newly elected Gov. Glenn Youngkin, numerous members of his cabinet and Lieutenant Governor Winsome Sears. VABA President Bud Oakley introduced Governor Youngkin, who spoke about how Virginia is leading in technology development and the need for a prepared workforce.

During the festivities, special presentations were made to Virginia Senator John Cosgrove and NASA Langley Research Center’s Donna Lawson. Lawson was recognized for her 30 years of service to NASA as she prepares for retirement.
