The Weekend Preview - March 9, 2023

 League play in baseball and softball, top-five battles in lacrosse, and conference foes meeting in tennis and golf make the second weekend of March a must-watch for CAA fans.
 
Baseball
League play starts for 10 of 11 teams this weekend. Northeastern looks to build on a 9-1 start to 2023 with a trip to Elon, while 9-3 Charleston visits William & Mary. Defending CAA champion Hofstra heads to Delaware, while a pair of league newcomers begin their inaugural CAA slate when North Carolina A&T hosts Towson and Monmouth visits UNCW. Softball
Eight CAA teams begin their conference schedules this weekend while two others will play non-conference tune-ups. Towson takes a league-best 8-5 start into Wilmington for three with defending CAA champion UNCW, while Hampton – 8-7 to begin the season – squares off with fellow league newcomer Monmouth. Delaware visits Charleston and Elon hosts Stony Brook in the weekend’s other conference action.
 
In non-league competition, North Carolina A&T will host Quinnipiac on Friday and Hofstra welcomes Boston College for a weekend series. | Weekend Schedule
 
Women’s Lacrosse
The game of the weekend in women’s college lacrosse will be a Friday night showdown in Chicago between No. 4 Stony Brook and No. 3 Northwestern (8 p.m., BTN+). The Seawolves have knocked off three ranked teams already in 2023 and look for their 42nd over a top-25 team in the last decade.
 
Delaware will play two games in Denver, opening Saturday against Niagara and wrapping up with a Monday clash with No. 6 Denver. (1 p.m., DenverPioneers.com). Hofstra hosts No. 20 USC on Sunday (12 p.m., FloLive), while in other action, Drexel welcomes Fairfield and Monmouth visits Georgetown on Saturday, Elon hosts East Carolina on Sunday, and Monmouth takes on George Washington on Monday. | Weekend Schedule
 
Men’s Lacrosse
The first game of conference play and a clash with the nation’s top-ranked team highlight the weekend’s men’s lacrosse schedule. Towson heads to No. 1 Virginia on Saturday in a nationally televised contest (4 p.m., ACC Network) as part of a five-game afternoon that includes defending CAA champion Delaware opening league play against Monmouth (12 p.m., FloLive), Drexel taking on No. 17 Saint Joseph’s in a Philly clash (12 p.m., ESPN+), Fairfield hosting Binghamton on LacrosseTV, and Stony Brook visiting Providence. Golf
On the women’s side, Charleston hosts the Briar’s Creek Invitational, UNCW will host an event in Wilmington that includes Elon, Monmouth begins its year at LPGA International in Daytona,
 
In men’s action, Elon, Towson, and William & Mary will play the Ross Collegiate Classic at Pinehurst, Delaware and North Carolina A&T head to Myrtle Beach for App State’s Bash at the Beach, and Drexel will be in Oregon for the Bandon Dunes Championship.
 
Rowing
Delaware begins its spring on Saturday in an event hosted by Saint Joseph’s, while Villanova will head to Florida to face Jacksonville in Gainesville.
 
Tennis
Conference clashes between Delaware and Hofstra on Saturday and Charleston and Elon on Monday highlight the men’s schedule, while Drexel welcomes St. John’s, North Carolina A&T takes on Methodist University, UNCW visits No. 64 South Florida, and William & Mary welcomes in Gardner-Webb.
 
Charleston’s women play four matches at Patriots Point with Samford, SIUE, Miami Ohio, and Bucknell visiting Patriots Point. Delaware and Hofstra square off in a CAA battle before the Blue Hens host George Washingotn, Drexel faces Towson in a conference showdown, Elon hosts Davidson, Monmouth takes on Radford, UNCW takes on Western Carolina in Orlando before hosting No. 56 Virginia Tech, and William & Mary visits Longwood.
 
Track & Field
One team is in action in outdoor competition this weekend, as Charleston will take part in the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Classic.
