CAA Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards – Feb. 27

The CAA has announced its women’s basketball weekly awards following the penultimate week of the 2022-23 regular season. Northeastern graduate guard JaMiya Braxton earned CAA Player of the Week accolades, while Elon freshman guard Raven Preston garnered her league-leading sixth CAA Rookie of the Week honor this season.

Braxton averaged 19.5 points per game on 52.0 percent (13-25) shooting to lead Northeastern to a 2-0 week as the Huskies extended their winning streak to six games. On Friday, the graduate guard tallied a career-high 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting with three rebounds and one steal, helping Northeastern erase a 14-point deficit in a 70-61 comeback victory over Delaware. She followed the performance with a team-best 17 points and added two rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 79-46 win versus Hampton. Friday was Braxton’s second 20-point performance this season, while she has 11 double-digit scoring outputs this winter, all coming in league play.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Preston flirted with a double-double yet again in Elon’s lone game of the week, continuing an impressive freshman campaign. The Greensboro native scored 10 points on 5-of-11 shooting and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds against William & Mary while adding two assists and a block in the effort. Preston has reached double figures in six straight games and 13-of-16 in CAA play. Additionally, the freshman guard leads all first-year players in scoring (12.7 ppg) and rebounding (8.1 rpg) this winter.
